Power troubleshooting
A 100W label does not prove the whole power chain will work.
If Starlink Mini will not start from a power bank, check the exact USB-C port, its 20V/5A PD profile, the cable or adapter, connector fit, and cable length before blaming battery capacity.

A minimum 100W USB PD source rated 20V/5A is required for the Mini USB-C power path when used with the Starlink USB-C to barrel-jack cable accessory. A bank's total advertised wattage does not necessarily mean every port can provide that profile.
Know the three numbers
Output compatibility and battery capacity answer different questions
Check in this order
Follow the power chain from the bank to the Mini
Use the correct high-power port
Multiport banks often reserve maximum output for one USB-C port. Read the port label and the bank's output table, not only the headline wattage.
Confirm the 20V/5A PD profile
The port must support the profile Starlink specifies. A high combined output or a different voltage profile is not the same thing.
Use a compatible USB-C-to-DC cable path
The cable and any adapter must negotiate and carry the intended power. Confirm the connector, rating, length, and compatibility before connecting.
Remove extra adapters for the first test
Every coupler adds another possible mismatch or loose connection. Test the shortest complete setup first, then add routing accessories one at a time.
Watch the startup behavior
No light may suggest no power or failed negotiation. Repeated startup may point to an unstable supply, connection, or voltage loss. Stop if anything becomes hot, damaged, or loose.
What the symptoms suggest
Do not replace the battery until you isolate the failure
Nothing happens
Recheck the selected port, PD profile, cable orientation, connector seating, and the bank's output mode.
Starts, then restarts
Test a shorter known-compatible cable path and verify the bank can sustain the required output without shutting the port down.
Works until another device plugs in
The bank may redistribute power across ports. Test Starlink Mini by itself, then confirm the multiport power-sharing rules.
A simple bench test
Test before a trip, outage, or remote workday
- Charge the power bank and disconnect every other device.
- Connect the shortest compatible high-power cable path to the designated USB-C port.
- Start Starlink Mini and wait until it is online.
- Run a video call, upload, or other realistic workload for at least 30 minutes.
- Check the bank display, connectors, and cable for unexpected shutdown, heat, looseness, or repeated startup.
- Add any second device or pass-through charging only after the standalone test succeeds.

View power bankEstimate runtime only after compatibility is confirmed
Use watt-hours rather than milliamp-hours for a practical first estimate. Leave room for conversion loss, temperature, battery age, startup demand, and a reserve.
Estimated hours = usable watt-hours / measured or conservative watt load
For planning, use Starlink's published 25-40W average range and verify it against your own display or meter. Real-world runtime will vary.
FAQ
Power bank and USB-C troubleshooting
Can any 100W power bank run Starlink Mini?
Not necessarily. Confirm that the exact USB-C port supports the required 20V/5A PD profile and that the complete cable and connector path is compatible. Then test startup and sustained operation.
Why does the Mini restart repeatedly?
Repeated startup can indicate an unstable output, power-sharing change, poor connector, incompatible cable or adapter, or too much voltage loss. Test Starlink Mini alone with the shortest compatible path.
Can I use a 65W USB-C source?
Starlink's current guidance states that the Mini USB-C power path requires a minimum 100W USB PD source rated 20V/5A. Follow the official requirement rather than relying on isolated community experiments.
Does a larger Wh rating fix a cable problem?
No. Watt-hours describe stored energy, not whether the port and cable can negotiate and deliver the required output. Resolve compatibility first, then use Wh to estimate runtime.
Should I use pass-through charging immediately?
First prove the bank can run the Mini by itself. Pass-through charging can change power allocation or thermal behavior, so enable it only if the manufacturer supports it and the complete setup remains stable.
How long should I test the setup?
A 30-minute realistic workload is a useful minimum before travel, but longer testing is better when the connection will support work, safety, or backup communications.
